To pick up from last week, it bothers me a lot when I hear the word “sustainable” from individuals and organizations. The fact is, it means different things to different people, and some even believe it means “all natural” or organic. Of particular concern is “sustainable” when used in a marketing context, may mislead consumers who are skeptical if it means anything at all.

One of the greatest attributes of Long Island’s agriculture industry and our farmers is resiliency. Through our history and the ups and downs, the industry is still alive and well.  Considering the crises in the overall economy nationwide, Long Island agriculture will be a bright spot in 2009.
